Antelope Valley Branch President’s Message 2010

Juneteenth Message from the President of the Antelope Valley (AV) Branch of the NAACP

On behalf of the Antelope Valley Branch of the NAACP, I bid you greetings and well wishes on the 145th Anniversary and Celebration of Juneteenth this weekend at Jackie Robinson Park!

We, as a community have come so far and yet, as we all can see, we have so far to go when it comes to people working together for the betterment of all in the Antelope Valley.  It took the races and people of all ages to get us through the perils of slavery in the United States and it took people of all backgrounds to stand and say enough is enough with people abusing the African-American people during the 1960s Civil Rights era.  And so here we are today on the eve of the 145th Celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation of January 1, 1863 and we stand with “brothers and sisters” of all backgrounds around the world to say “people are people regardless of race, creed, or color.”  Celebrations are happening all around the world and this means, as history shows, people of all backgrounds stand for the remembrance of and the prevention of unethical and immoral abuse of African-American people and all people, for that matter.  It is only those that have little respect for and little understanding of people who are from a background different than their own and people who have a desire to dominate and feel superior that we, who are free, have to deal with.  Confronting them means educating them, and helping them to overcome their fears and insecurities with dealing with differences in people.  Some of them are not up for the challenge and therein lays the reason for the existence for the NAACP still today!  The effort will continue. The fight for justice and equality for all will prevail.  Thank you for your heart and soul in celebrating a momentous occasion…Juneteenth 2010!  We invite you to become a member of the NAACP today!  Join us at the celebration this weekend June 18-20, 2010.

Your Sister in the Struggle-
